Empowering the next generation

USABF uses basketball as a training ground for critical life skills like leadership, teamwork, and perseverance. By expanding access to USA Basketball camps, clinics, open courts, and community takeovers, we support the mental and physical well-being of thousands of young athletes nationwide.

YOUTH DEVELOPMENT CLINICS

USABF is expanding access to USA Basketball youth development clinics, with a focus on reaching kids in diverse and underserved communities. In 2024 alone, over 1,300 school-age children from across the US participated in a total of eight clinics.

Open Courts

USABF supports USA Basketball in connecting kids with local sports facilities through the open court program. Young athletes help determine the structure of each open court session under the supervision of USA Basketball-licensed coaches. Participants earn prizes along the way while building their basketball skills in a fun, safe, and creative environment.

PROGRAM IMPACT

In 2025 alone, more than 1,000 kids participated in USA Basketball open court sessions.

Community Takeovers

USABF’s newest youth program brings basketball to elementary and middle schools through special community takeover events. These high-energy experiences feature keynote speakers and sports legends who talk with kids about how the game can help them become champions in basketball and in life.

COMMUNITY COURT REFURBISHMENTS

Access to safe spaces to play can be a significant barrier for kids and teens pursuing basketball. USABF partners with communities to refurbish basketball courts and create welcoming spaces where young athletes can develop their skills.

50TH ANNIVERSARY PROJECT

To celebrate USA Basketball’s 50th anniversary, USABF teamed up with Project Backboard and JDS Sports to refurbish the basketball court at the Hillside Community Center in Colorado Springs, CO. A focal point for this diverse community, the Hillside Community Center will be a place for young athletes to gather and grow for years to come.

GOLD CAMPS

USA Basketball Gold Camps take skill development to the next level for 6th-9th grade students, focusing on drill work, small-sided games, and both 5×5 and 3×3 competition. These in-depth coaching experiences cultivate collegiate and professional hopefuls early, building their skill base for the next stage of their basketball careers. Learning doesn’t stop on the court—character and leadership development is a core component of every USA Basketball Gold Camp.

PROGRAM GROWTH

Since 2022, USA Basketball Gold Camps have reached more than 2,000 middle and high school students nationwide.

U.S. OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Competition is a valuable tool for teaching goal-setting, hard work, and sportsmanship. USABF is proud to help support USA Basketball in hosting the U.S. Open Basketball Championships. This open-registration national youth competition reached more than 2,000 boys and girls in 2025 with tournaments held in Bermuda Run, NC, and Kansas City, KS.
